Tell us about what you do at MindSpring.
Currently, I am one of the newer MindSpring Associate Recruiters. I work with candidates throughout the job search, submission, and interview cycle, helping them polish their resumes and interview skills to ensure they are confident and fully prepared. I also run and organize our MindSpring Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program. While there is still a lot more we want to accomplish, we’ve been able to partner with multiple organizations and work with them on mock interviews and resume best practices. I organize trainings, resource materials for our team and donation or volunteer opportunities. I also work as our Marketing Coordinator, writing social media copy and running our Instagram page. Many hats!
I have worked with MindSpring in many capacities since 2018 though. I started with the organization as a temp, working for our clients in various administrative positions. I was then brought on internally and joined the team in September of 2018 as the Office Administrator. Sort of a MindSpring success story!
What do you find most interesting about working with the MindSpring team?
One thing I find unique about MindSpring is that everyone has very different, successful recruiting styles. I feel like MindSpring allows each Recruiter to explore what works for them, which enables us to get tips and tricks from each other to adapt to our own style. We have a very supportive recruiting team and I always feel like I can lean on anybody for help or advice.
How does MindSpring support your career and personal goals?
As I said, MindSpring allows each Recruiter to find their own way and gives them the tools to do so. I feel like I have been able to engage in genuine candidate interactions that suit my personality, while still having the logistical training to get the job done.
They’ve also allowed me to build this DEI program from the ground up. A huge undertaking that I’m very grateful for!
And on a personal note – this was my first job in a corporate setting. Coming from a theatre background and the service industry, I had a lot to learn when I first started. MindSpring has truly helped me navigate the many roles I’ve had over the years with them with full support and guidance.
What’s the #1 quality you feel is important to achieving success in the staffing industry?
Perseverance!
What is a unique trait or something that differentiates you from other recruiters out there?
I try my best to connect with each of my candidates on a personal level. It definitely takes a bit more time but building that trust-based relationship is super important.
What’s the biggest benefit to partnering with a staffing firm in a job search?
It’s like having a buddy system when you’re in your job search – somebody who can do some of the leg work for you so it’s not all on your shoulders. Plus, we get intel from the company and can help you prepare so you can do your best in the interview.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
I love sporting events and summers in Chicago. The city offers so much that is often taken for granted. But… I’m actually a new resident of New York City. I live on the Upper West Side now, a block from Central Park, and I’m looking forward to exploring my new neighborhood.
Since I’ll always be connected to Chicago through my work with MindSpring, my favorite thing about the city is the summer festivals. You really can’t beat them. No hotels needed, just step out your door and you’ve got a different “Coachella” every other weekend throughout the summer.
Do you have a unique skill or “stupid human trick”?
An immense knowledge of the Real Housewives.
